is a company based in Hollywood that recreates those jazzy numbers of the 1920's that "embody creative energy, sharp design, and a wonderful sense of whimsy".
They helped outfit the new silent film, "The Artist".
These are my favorites from their different lines:
Alice White(1904-1983) had a short career as an American actress in silent films and "talkies" (talking films) and was well known in 1929.
She started working as a script girl in Hollywood then shortly after getting noticed went to work for Charlie Chaplan who put her in front of a camera. Unfortunately her days as a flapper starlet did not last long due to a scandal with her boyfriend and future husband at the time.
Luscious. Extravagant, Dreamy. Playful. Just some of the words that come to mind when I look at Louis Icart's works. He painted, etched and sketched, drew, and had an interest in fashion. Obviously. He was a symbol of the Art Deco art movement.
He portrayed the woman of his era as beautiful, fashionable, curious, playful, luxurious and fabulous. To lounge around in those long, puffy, silky fabrics smoking cigarettes and living in the moment. I would die for it. Truly. Which is why I run this blog, to attempt to bring some of that happiness and carefree sense back into this day of age. To throw caution to the wind, undaunted and unrestrained.
I did a photo shoot at the Hamilton to help promote A Night At The Speakeasy and because I've been wanting to do a fun flapper photo shoot for a while! I got to put all of my resources, vintage clothing and hats, etc.. together and here are the results. The art direction/fashion styling and planning/organizing is definitely the best part for me. The event has gotten a great response so far and should be super fun. I just can't believe it's happening! I would constantly look for 1920's themed events in Milwaukee and there were none, they were always happening in LA or NY or even Texas or Denver. That inspired me to just do it. I hope people come and have fun, because then we could keep going with it and eventually do more vintage themed events.
